Hi, I’m Thea Kable.

 

I’m a PhD candidate, designer, and illustrator working on the unceded lands of the Gadigal of the Eora Nation. I’ve designed publications including a zine about Biosphere 2, an anthology of kids’ stories, and a book about hopeful futures. My illustrations have appeared alongside pirate-y prose, childrens’ stories (1, 2, 3 & 4), and health articles. I’ve also made a variety of comics and branding.

I created thirteen illustrated maps for Pirate's Life by Ken Bolton, published by Cordite Books. These maps were informed by research I performed into notable structures from the book’s setting, as well as incorporating some more ‘old pirate map’-esque elements like sea monsters. Flora and landmarks differ for each setting, and the illustrations were drawn in Procreate.
