Hi, I’m Thea Kable.

 

I’m a PhD candidate, designer, and illustrator working on the unceded lands of the Gadigal of the Eora Nation. I’ve designed publications including a zine about Biosphere 2, an anthology of kids’ stories, and a book about hopeful futures. My illustrations have appeared alongside pirate-y prose, childrens’ stories (1, 2, 3 & 4), and health articles. I’ve also made a variety of comics and branding.

Immediately Before the End of Everything was a risograph-printed anthology publication of comics and visual essays ruminating on sustainability, the earth, and human relationships to the ecosystems we live in. I was delighted to contributed a short, two-page comic into this amazing publication of Australian creators.





eden and entropy

Nowhere Near Eden and Entropy are short comics exploring a future where interspace travel has become the norm. Nowhere Near Eden in particular draws on the contemporary NASA HI-SEAS program which researches analog human spaceflight habitats. These comics were read at a Read To Me event in 2018.

Only Human is a short comic discussing some insights found through my Honours research in mid-2019, primarily surrounding the cultural dimensions to escapist responses to climate concerns.
